Just Dropped: Birds of Summer

We finished six new bird pieces this week.

The birds have been hanging around the studio for a while now. They started with From Fragments, Flight, built from cut-up older paintings and whatever else was around. Since then they’ve kept changing.

This summer we went back to painting the backgrounds first. Lots of blue. Four smaller pieces stayed pretty simple - one bird each, stitched over painted canvas. Two got bigger and turned into full landscapes.

As usual, there was a fair amount of cutting things apart, moving them around, sewing them down, and changing our minds.
