Process

Each piece in Fragments is built through Kuki’s layered mixed-media process. Backgrounds are created with acrylics, enamels, fluid paints, and textured mediums, sometimes combined with weather capture techniques to create soft shifts and organic surfaces.

The birds begin as fragments of earlier works. Previous paintings and remnant materials are cut down and reshaped into new forms. Every element is hand-placed and finished with a combination of machine stitching and hand embroidery. Nothing is printed or simulated, resulting in a one-of-one textile-meets-painting hybrid that looks simple at first glance but reveals more detail the longer you sit with it.
