Teal Rain Blue - Mixed Media on Canvas

One long-legged bird crosses a deep blue field while teal stitches fall around it like rain. Its vivid coral body, pale blue eye, and wandering stitched legs stand out against the heavily textured surface.

Teal Rain Blue is one of four small works within the six-piece Birds of Summer collection. Each pairs a single stitched bird with the same saturated blue ground, while changing the bird itself and the color of the hand-stitched rain. Up close, layered material, exposed threads, painted texture, and small surface details reveal how each one is put together.

Process

Pink Rain Blue is built through Kuki’s layered mixed-media process. The deep blue painted ground combines layers of paint and textured mediums, punctuated by small raised marks and thin lines of pink.

The bird is constructed separately from fabric and mixed materials, then placed and stitched into the painted surface. Machine stitching, hand embroidery, exposed threads, and layered edges remain visible as part of the work.

Nothing is printed or simulated. Pink Rain Blue is a one-of-one textile-meets-painting hybrid and part of the Birds of Summer series.
